Kenya Simbas take on Portugal as they seek to bounce back from defeat against USA  Eagles in the World Cup repechage in Dubai on Saturday.

Paul Odera's charges were put to the sword last week, going down  68-14 to the USA in a one-sided contest.

This time around, Odera will be hoping for a competitive match to rekindle their hope of qualifying for the Rugby World Cup next year.

The two teams last met in 2015 at the RFUEA  ground with the Simbas winning 41-15 and this time around, it promises to be a stern test for Kenya.

Odera has made 12 changes in his side ahead of the encounter with  Homeboyz Sevens star Amon Wamalwa handed the number 10 jersey in place of  Geoffrey Ominde, who has been rested.

Joshua Weru, who came off the bench for a try-scoring debut in Sunday’s 14-68 loss to the USA, makes his first full start for the Simbas at number eight in place of Bethuel Anami, who takes a break for this fixture.

Samuel Asati moves from scrum half to fullback in one of two positional changes with Thomas Okeyo shifted from lock to blindside flank.

Malcolm Onsando will captain the side in the absence of Daniel Sikuta who is also rested for this fixture after suffering a concussion in the clash against the USA.

Assistant coach Mike Aung said they had to rotate the squad after the opening match.

"The game against the USA was a physical one and we opted for slight rotation in the squad. We have gone for a quicker pack and backline as well," he added.  Aung hinted that Portugal will be dangerous.

" Their backline is quite fast so we want to try and mitigate that by focusing on our strengths. We want to make sure we reduce the amount of possession that they have in order to keep the ball more," he opined.

Portugal ranked 21 began their campaign with a 42-14 demolition of Hong Kong and will rely on the likes of  Fransisco Fernandez, Jose Madeira  and Rafael Simoes in the forwards.

Sousa Guedes, Rafael Storti,  Jose Lima, and Rodrigo Marta will be the key actors in the backline.

The other match pit the USA against Hong Kong. The winner of the tournament qualifies for next year's Rugby World Cup in  France and will face Australia, Wales, Fiji and Georgia.
