Impala to open Championship campaign against Zetech

Ten-time Kenya Cup champions Impala will start life in the KRU Championship with a tie against Zetech University on November 26.

The Ngong Road giants, who were relegated alongside Nondies will then face varsity sides Daystar University and United States International University.

The Red shirts then have a  date with former Kenya Cup outfit Kisumu RFC on December 17.

The League will then take a Christmas and New Year break before resuming on January 7, 2023.

Nondies, who have won a record Kenya Cup titles at 17, will start their Championship season against Daystar then face USIU before concluding the year with matches against Kisumu and the University of Eldoret.

The top two teams in the championship get promoted to the Kenya Cup while the bottom two in the top tier drop to the championship.

Impala RFC chairman Charles Ngovi was optimistic that his charges will be ready for the start of the season.

"We are already into our second month of the pre-season with a good blend of young and experienced players. We  will be going for nothing short of promotion,” said Ngovi.

"To that effect, Impala will be playing at the next month's Floodlit  tournament to prepare them themselves adequately."

"One of the challenges we had last season was lack of a proper pre-season and it affected us. If you saw the matches we lost, it came down to not having a rigorous pre-season. We have learnt our lessons and I am confident that the team will bounce back,” he added.

Top Kenya Cup and Championship sides are busy preparing for the start of the season and have lined up build-up matches before the season opener in late November.
