Mwangi wins opening leg of KCB East Africa golf tournament

Adrian Mwangi of Vetlab Golf Club was crowned the overall winner of the opening leg of the KCB East Africa golf tour at the lush par 72 Vetlab golf course on April 15.

The Handicap 33 golfer carded an excellent score of 39 stableford points to beat his closest challenger Emmanuel Nyakaberia, playing off handicap 27 who carded 36 points.

Nyakaberia was named the overall men winner beating Eric Njunu who carded 35 points while Daniel Karuga (Handicap 19) was a distant third having carded 34 points.

Speaking after his win, Adrian Mwangi said: “I am happy with my win. KCB have done an incredible job kickstarting the tour here at Vetlab. As a member, we could not let this win slip through our fingers. I can say my swing was there and the fine weather also contributed to my success.”

In the ladies' category, Caroline Mokeria, playing off handicap 45 carded 37 points to beat handicap 39 Grace Katumbi on countback. Alice Adere settled for the 3rd position carding 35 points.

Seasoned lady golfer Scola Onsongo (handicap 34) scooped the staff winner award carding 37 points while her counterpart Allan Kirui (handicap 26) came in second with 34 points.

The tournament will head to Eldoret Golf Club for its second leg before landing at Limuru for the third leg in two weeks’ time.
