A month after representing Kenya at the 2022 Magical Kenya ladies Open, Faith Chemtai is keen on improving her course record at the Nyanza Club during the third leg of the Safaricom Golf Series this Saturday.

Chemtai, just like all the other Kenyan ladies, failed to make the cut into the final rounds at Rea Vipingo Golf Club where Esther Henseleit waited until the last day to fire a two under-par-70 in the last round to claim the title with 286.

The Nandi Bears golfer holds the record at eight-under par-64 set during the Sunshine Tour golf series.

“My aim at the club is to improve on last year’s show where I broke the course record with 64 gross, making me the first player to ever do that,” said Chemtai.

On Thursday, the Handicap Two golfer was sharpening her skills before heading to Nyanza on Friday morning for another round of training ahead of Saturday's tournament.

After setting the record, Chemtai was awarded a Sh35, 000 trolley.

“I could have won the title but I was playing as a guest. I was just invited into the tournament. If I was from the club, I could have won better prizes,” she added.

Last weekend, she was the longest-drive winner during the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) opening series at the Kakamega Club where home player Joel Mukhanji fired 24 points in the second nine for the title.

He hit a total of 43 stable ford points to become the first overall series winner followed by Nandi Bears' Phelix Koech (42).

Others expected at the Safaricom tournament is former Kakamega captain Jack Songwa and Hieromin Ikhokoro.
