Gor Mahia FC head coach Jonathan McKinstry has tipped his charges to cruise past arch-rivals AFC Leopards in the eagerly-awaited Mashemeji derby encounter.

The two Kenyan Premier League behemoths will lock horns in a fierce clash for bragging rights during the country's most cherished inter-club football showpiece at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

In an interview on Friday, McKinstry predicted a vicious and scintillating duel but reiterated their desire to leverage the fixture as they group for points to bolster their aspirations for the 21st topflight title.

"We are looking forward to it and we are expecting a tough game. The players are in good spirits and we are expecting a good performance," McKinstry remarked.

The Irish gaffer lavished praise on his charges for asserting authority in the cutthroat top-tier competition where they have opened a nine-point gap on their closest challenger, Kenya Police FC.

"We go into every game as favourites. That's the nature of putting on that green jersey. When you put on the jersey you've got to grow a little bit, your shoulders have got to grow a little bit wider and your chest has to pump up a little bit more.

"Players who are small mentally can not survive in the green jersey of Gor Mahia."

McKinstry reiterated their desire to lay claim to their 21st KPL title.

"We believe as we do in every game that if we go and take control of the game and play we shall win. We have the best defensive and attacking record in the league. We want to make sure we are number one in all categories," McKinstry remarked.
