Jürgen Klopp has announced his decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of this season.

The German cited the desire to live a normal life, something he said has been difficult since his appointment in 2015.

In an interview with the club on Friday, Klopp said he has already informed the club ownership of his wish to leave at the close of the 2023-24 campaign.

"I think it's the right moment for me and I think it's the right moment for the club because I can't do the job from next year anymore as I did it before," he said.

He steered Liverpool to lift the Uefa Champions League, Premier League, Fifa Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and Uefa Super Cup, as well as the FA Community Shield trophies.

Klopp described his signing as Liverpool manager as a fairytale, and "a very difficult thing to plan and difficult to reach".

He, however, said he could do what he did because he dedicated 100,000 per cent of his time to everything he did.

"I came here as a normal guy. I'm still a normal guy I just don't live a normal life for too long now. And I don't wanna wait until I'm too old to have a normal life," Klopp, who coached German side Borussia Dortmund before taking over at Liverpool said.

Klopp, who spent most of his playing career at Mainz 05, was appointed as Liverpool manager on October 8, 2015.

After as many years as the club manager, the 56-year-old said he feels like it's time to go back to feeling like a normal person before it's too late.

“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it," he said.
