Namibia coach Collin Benjamin says the victory over the 2004 champions Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 was extra special as no one gave them a chance.

Deon Hotto's late goal gave Namibia a historic victory on Tuesday in the month-long competition held in Ivory Coast.

"It’s an ecstatic feeling that I can’t describe. I am proud to be Namibian and be a coach of these players. We were never really given a chance," Benjamin said.

"We are just happy that we could go on the field and play a good match and win. I can only imagine what is happening in the streets of Namibia right now. This victory is dedicated to them."

The former national team captain also cautioned that there was still a lot of work to be done and that Wednesday would be a completely new day.

“Tonight (Tuesday), of course, we celebrate but tomorrow (Wednesday) it is back to normal. Back to grinding and working hard as a team and for our people back home” concluded Benjamin.

Namibia are second in Group E as Mali leads by a superior goal difference following their 2-0 victory against South Africa.

The two sides square it out on January 24 with both teams putting themselves in steady positions to sail to the next round after victory in their opening matches.
