Starlets, Botswana draw in Wafcon qualifier at Nyayo

Harambee Starlets were this afternoon held to a 1-1 by Botswana in the first leg of the final round of the 2024 African Women’s Cup of Nations  qualifiers at Nyayo Stadium. 

Botswana opened the scores in the 36th minute through Lesego Dudetsang Radia Kanyo before Marjolen Nekesa equalised for the home side from the penalty spot in the 50th minute.

Starlets were unable to snatch a win after missing a penalty in the dying minutes of the encounter.

To reach this final round Starlets beat Cameroon 4-3 on penalties at Nyayo Stadium on September 26 after a 1-1 aggregate following the conclusion of the two legs.

Beldine Odemba’s side will have to win the return leg fixture in Gaborone on December 5 to qualify for a second Wafcon tournament.

Starlets debuted at the continental showpiece in 2016 edition in Cameroon with a historic win over Algeria.
