Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has urged fans to fill the Nyayo Stadium to support Harambee Starlets in their final match of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifier against Botswana on Wednesday.

The CS made the remarks after visiting the team during their final training session on Tuesday ahead of the do-or-die two-legged encounter.

"Tomorrow, Wednesday 29th November, from 3 pm let's fill Nyayo Stadium to the rafters and roar our super girls, the Harambee Starlets to victory against Botswana. The final hurdle to the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 in Morocco. C'mon girls," Ababu posted on his X platform.

The WAFCON will be held in Morocco in 2024. The Starlets have only played once at Africa's Premier competition (2016) and got eliminated at the group stage.

A win for Kenya will put them firmly on course for qualification and the team must avoid defeat in the away fixture on December 5, in order to dine with the 'big girls' at the prestigious championship.

"Let's cheer our girls. Entry FREEEEE!, "Ababu added.

In the first-round qualifiers, Starlets lost 1-0 to Cameroon in Douala, on September 22.

They won by the same margin in Nairobi four days later to make the scoreline 1-1 before triumphing in post-match penalties 4-3.

Meanwhile, the CS  banned non-sporting activities at Nyayo Stadium. The stadium, Kenya's currently only international standard facility needs to be in good shape as the nation prepares to host the 2027 Afcon dubbed 'Pamoja bid'.

"I have banned all non-sporting activities on these pitches(Stadiums earmarked for AFCON) and we have even agreed that the Jamhuri Day celebrations should be hosted elsewhere,"  Ababu said.
