Oscar Kambona will take charge of Shabana in their next two Kenyan Premier League matches following the resignation of Sammy Okoth, club secretarygeneral Elizaphan Kerama has said.

The former Gor Mahia defender, who was one of Okoth’s assistants, will be in the dugout for matches against Gor Mahia and Bandari as the club searches for a new gaffer. He will be assisted by Kevin Momanyi.

Okoth quit after Shabana’s 4-0 humiliation by Ulinzi Stars at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday.

“Kambona will lead the team against Gor Mahia on Wednesday and Bandari on Sunday as we look for a new coach by the time we host Nzoia Sugar on November 11,” said Kerama. “Even though I have not received his (Okoth’s) resignation letter, I respect his decision and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Kerama said more than 10 coaches have expressed interest in replacing Okoth.

“The management will sit down and look at the CVs before making a decision. We are looking for an experienced coach — KPL experience — and with a track record. We don’t want to make mistakes,” noted Kerama. “The recruitment process will be meticulous and professional.”

Even though Kerama stayed clear of mentioning names, immediate former Kenya Police coach Francis Baraza, current assistant coach Salim Babu, Tusker’s Robert Matano, Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo and Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno are among those in the frame to take over.

He said they intend to overhaul the technical bench and hinted at having Bunyore Starlets coach Timothy Ondeko as an assistant coach.
