Nairobi Water Queens thrashed Kenyatta University 45-14 in a Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league match at Nyayo Stadium.

It was an easy match-up for the unbeaten reigning champions who scored their opening goal on a break by Brenda Musambai. They led 22-7 at half-time.

“I am giving my new players a chance to play and gain the necessary experience and I am happy with their performance so far,” offered Queens' coach Jack Ochieng.

“What I liked in the game is the way they played in the defence. We are 60 percent there but we will keep working to perfect it.”

Cecilia Katheu led the winners with 11 goals 11. Musambai nailed eight and captain Gladys Chilo shot six. Damaris Anjala had nine and Vivian Owano had four for KU.

Kenyatta University men’s side scored a late equaliser to force a 30-30 draw against Engineers in a closely fought game.

It was the students who were ahead 17-16 at the break but Engineers took over and just failed to bag maximum points as KU forced a last second penalty.

Willis Musembi held his nerves and knocked down the equalising goal from the spot as the final whistle went up.

“It was not an easy game. We were not going to lose this match after yesterday’s loss against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUATS). We gave it our all and we are happy with the share of the spoils,” said Musembi.

JKUATS dimmed Rising Star 35-26 as Esther Gathoni nailed 10 goals, Terry Akinyi eight and Sylvia Maina seven. The loser,  who were down 18-10, were lifted by Sheila Atsachi and Dorcas Wenya who both grabbed eight goals.
