Lusigi beats Mwanzia for E-Sport Kenya Federation top job

Lusigi promised to popularise the sport in the country by engaging both the government and the private sector.

Ronny Lusigi was elected the new president of the Electronic Sports Kenya Federation on Wednesday after gathering 23 votes against Mwaniki Mwanzia who had four votes. 

Lusigi promised to popularise the sport in the country by engaging both the government and the private sector. 

This is the first election for E-sports Kenya since it was founded in May 2018 as a national sports federation.

A total of nine elective seats were contested with 29 delegates casting their votes. 

"We shall approach the Armed Forces and ask them to start recruiting gamers into the forces the same way they do with other sports such as athletics, football, and boxing," Lusigi said. 

"We are offering our gamers an opportunity to proceed to the Olympics," he added. Anne Odhaimbo secured the (2nd vice president seat after collecting 22 votes against Celine Lerosion who had five.

John Ojiambo sailed through unopposed as the 1st vice president. Hellen Kairu was elected the new treasurer with 20 votes against Lydia Bisieri who attracted seven.

Brian Ochanda got 24 votes to become the new athlete's representative after beating Moses Koech who had three votes.

Omarsadik Mohamed and Elisha Kiplagat were both elected unopposed as the secretary general and organizing secretary respectively. Michael Lulu is the new corporate member representative while John Shimaka was confirmed as the life member representative.

The federation is a member of the Global Esports Federation. The observers were drawn from the Ministry of Sports, the Registrar of Sports, and the Kenya National Sports Council. The election was attended by Sports Registrar Rose Wasike.
