Kenya men’s and women’s teams jet out tonight for the FIBA 3x3 Under -23 World Cup that tips off in Lublin, Poland on Wednesday.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) chairman Paul Otula yesterday released the names of 12 players, six in each category that will represent the country in the five-day global festival.

The event will also be used to earn points for the Olympic Universality tournament.

The two sides will be handled by Eunice Ouma ( women) and Tony Ochieng (men). Ochieng explained that the championship in Poland will parade the top 20 teams in the world.

“The pathway way to qualification is through the ranking system. We have taken part in All Africa Games, Nations Cup and World championships,” said Ochieng

Kenya teams qualified by virtue of finishing second in Algiers. The national women’s team is currently ranked second in Africa in this category and they are also silver medalists in the Africa Beach Games.

The performance in Romania in 2022 and a gold medal in Nairobi in the 2022 Africa Nations League earned the team points.

Kenya men have been placed in Pool C, where they will battle Germany, Israel, Qatar and Tunisia while their women counterparts are in Pool ‘A’ alongside powerhouse USA, China, Austria, and the Netherlands.

The women are led by national team player Madina Okot, Barbara Diana, Maryanne Nyagaki, Alexandra Adala, MaryLisa Omondi, and Ashley Minayo.

Denis Koja, Brans Nzioka, Trevour Opiyo, Elisha Odhiambo, Rodney Olang and Bonface Amakutwa will lead the men’s charge.
