After a schoolboy howler by goalkeeper Erick Ongiri during the FKF Premier League game against Talanta, Shabana have signed another custodian Victor Kamungo from Migori Youth.

Kamungo will now compete with Ongiri and Mustapha Oduor for the starting place, according to club Secretary General, Elizaphan Kerama.

Ongiri conceded an easy goal during the 1-1 draw against Talanta, a performance that not only raised eyebrows among Shabana fans but did not go down well with coach Sammy Okoth.

Kerama also confirmed the signing of youthful forwards Ezekiel Omuri from Micheal Olunga Foundation (MOFA) and Japhet Lokayo from Inter Dabaso FC.

Other recruits include — journeyman Ivorian winger Frank Ouya who makes a comeback to the Glamour Boys, Prince Ayieko from Nzoia), Mark Okola  (Vihiga United), and Hillary Wandera (Kakamega Homeboyz. Ouya signed from newly promoted National Super League side, Nairobi United.

“Wandera, Ayieko, and Okola have been training with us the entire pre-season but they have not featured in the two opening KPL games because they had not been cleared. We expect them in the game against Kenya Police on September 16,” Kerama noted.

The only new signings who have featured for Shabana are defender Rodgers Aloro and striker Johana Mwita, who were signed from Bandari. Coach Okoth said he will progressively integrate the new signings into the team.

According to a source, the club is set to sign at least 12 players before the transfer window is shut. Zoo Kericho winger Dennis Ongeri and veteran striker Enock Agwanda are among the players being considered.

Shabana have lined up a friendly match against National Super League side, Kisumu All Stars on Saturday at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu.

“We will use the match to gauge ourselves and try to rectify the mistakes we have identified in the last two games. The two games have been like an introduction for the team to the top tier. We have made some mistakes here and there which we are working to rectify during the international window break,” said coach Okoth.

Speaking at Kisii Sports Club during the team’s gym session, he said former defender Oscar Kambona has joined the team’s technical bench as a trainer.

He expressed his optimism that they will meet their target of finishing in the top 10 position in the KPL.

"We have assembled a very good team. It’s only a matter of time before we start winning. We need to be patient with them,” Okoth added.

Shabana will host big-spending Kenya Police at Homa Bay Stadium on September 16 as they seek their first win of the campaign.
