Kenya Police head coach Francis Baraza is confident of finishing the 2023/24 Kenya Premier League season in a better position.

“We want to finish in a good position so that we represent Kenya in CAF competitions. That’s our target in the upcoming season,” the tactician said.

Speaking from Rwanda, where they played two pre-season games, Baraza, however, said they will not underrate any team.

“All the teams in the FKF Premier League are good. We have been branded favourites because we have in the last two seasons signed good and experienced players but we shall push and win all our games,” noted Baraza.

He said the 10 days tour of Tanzania and Rwanda has helped him gauge the team before the league kicks off on August 26.

“The pre-season tour has helped me gauge the fitness levels, unity, and coordination in the team. So far, so good but there are areas I will work on before the league kicks off,” he revealed.

In Tanzania, Kenya Police drew 1-1 against Singida Fountain and Namugongo while in Rwanda, they beat Rayon Sport 1-0 before losing 2-1 against Rwanda Police.

In the pre-season transfer window, Baraza has signed midfielders Kenneth Muguna from Tanzania’s Azan and Tyson Otieno from Kariobangi Sharks.

“I want at least four players. We played four friendly matches and from what I observed, we need an extra striker. I will discuss this with the management of the team,” he noted.

The former Harambee Stars defender said he is lining up at least two friendly matches against a lower-tier side and a KPL team before the league starts. He welcomed the recruitment of Salim Babu as his assistant.

“Babu is someone I have known from our heydays at Sony Sugar. He is experienced having coached in the top tier league for several years. He will assist me reach our objectives,” added Baraza.

Last season, Kenya Police finished the league in third position with 64 points, six behind eventual winners Gor Mahia. The law enforcers will open their 2023/24 season against Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Annex on August 26.
