The newly crowned Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have dismissed reports that Ugandan forward Peter Lwasa has left the club.

K'Ogalo secretary general, Sam Ocholla, said Lwasa still has a running contract. "It's interesting how some people misuse social media to spread falsehoods. Lwasa is still our player. He has some months left on his contract and he has not expressed a desire to desert the club," Ocholla said.

Earlier reports indicated that the record Kenyan champions had already parted ways with the Ugandan duo of Peter Lwasa and Shafiq Kagimu. Lwasa made a maiden KPL appearance in August 2019 when he penned a deal to ply trade for Sofapaka.

Five months later, he joined the Kariobangi Sharks and lasted there for 21 months before landing a role with Gor. Ocholla also disclosed plans to revamp the squad ahead of the new Kenyan Premier League season.

"We have already identified six players whom we are keen to sign ahead of the new season. We shall, however, reveal their names at the appropriate time," Ocholla said.

"We also plan to send eight of our current players on loan to various clubs. They are good players with a bright future whom we wouldn't want to lose. But we feel they need some time to develop before we allow them back into the team," Ocholla said.

In an earlier interview, head coach Jonathan McKinstry also expressed a desire to bolster his lineup for a successful Caf Champions League campaign.

"We are not only looking to defend our title but we also must fly the country's flag in next season's Caf Champions League. This calls for thorough preparations and more depth in our squad," McKinistry remarked.

The Irish gaffer said they will have to plunge vast resources into the next transfer market to plug in the gaps left by some of their dependable players.

"We have a crop of amazing players who can compete effectively on the continental stage. They have already displayed their potential by clinching the title. But we also have several players whose future seem uncertain at the club," McKinstry said.

"A couple have already left after playing an integral part in our successful campaign last season. That necessitates their replacement," he stated.

Reports indicate that the club has opened talks with FC Talanta's first-choice custodian Kevin Olang'.

Contacted, Olang confirmed the talks are ongoing. "It's true I'm in talks with Gor. We have held three sessions so far and things look promising," Olang said.
