The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has moved the under-18 women’s championship from Kenya to Tanzania.

Cecafa executive director, Auka Gecheo, confirmed on Monday that the tournament will now take place from July 25 to August 7 at the Chamazi Stadium in Dar-es-salaam.

The decision to move the tournament was made during a meeting by Cecafa members in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire last week on the sidelines of the Caf Ordinary Assembly.

Kenya was meant to host the championship from June 29 to July 11 in Nairobi, but the competition was pushed further ahead because of a delay in funding.

The championship that was initially set to kick off from June 3-17 had been postponed three times. It was pushed to start on June 24 and later on July 8.

With the tournament facing a fourth-time postponement to July 13, Kenya and teams from Uganda and Tanzania dissolved their camps.

The teams expected to participate include; hosts Tanzania, Burundi, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zanzibar.

Auka said Kenya will not take part in the championship because of ongoing school games and later examinations around the same period.

After the under-18 women’s championship, the Zonal Caf women’s Champions League qualifier will take place in Uganda from August 12-30.

The other tournaments expected to take place in the 2023 season include the under-18 boys' championship, the under-15 boys' championship, the Kagame Cup, and the Cecafa Under-23 Championship.
