Kenyan Premier League club, KCB, have bolstered their technical bench with an experience-laden staff ahead of the new season.

The bankers said they had picked Elvis Ayany to deputise the newly appointed head coach Bernard Mwalala.

Eric Muranda assumes his new role as the bankers’ fitness trainer while Samuel Okoth has been mandated with the task of sprucing up the goal-keeping department.

Collins Kyama and Michael Oyando will continue with their roles as the team’s physiotherapist and team manager respectively.

The club tinkered with the coaching unit following the expiry of Zedekiah Otieno’s contract last month.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony on Friday, KCB FC Patron Azu Ogola expressed confidence in the ability of the new team to transform the bankers’ fortunes in the new season.

“Mwalala brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong track record both as a player and as a football coach spanning seven years in local and regional football assignments,” the statement read in part.

Mwalala boasts a wealth of experience having previously guided notable top-flight clubs including Nzoia Sugar Football Club, Bandari FC, Homeboyz FC and Ulinzi Stars, where he registered remarkable outcomes.

“We are confident that through him, we shall usher in a new era of success for the club with our eyes keen on winning the local league and regional trophies. His vast experience will come in handy in delivering a positive impact on the team’s performance in the various competitions lined up,” Azu said.

Azu said Mwalala’s entry opens an exciting chapter for KCB as they look to elevate its performance after wrapping up fifth in the 2022/23 Kenyan Premier League season. On his part, Mwalala pledged a new era full of success.

“I am excited by the opportunity, and I am fully committed to building a strong and competitive team that will deliver positive results on the field. I have a plan, we are going for the title next season and beyond,” he said.

KCB head of integrated marketing, Nkatha Mutungi said they would extend the exercise to other disciplines.

“We are looking to further bolster our sports teams across the disciplines to give them a better chance in the game in the ongoing local competitions.”

KCB Bank’s footprint in sports support across the country is expansive and cuts across various sports among them KCB FC, KCB women’s volleyball club, KCB FC, and KCB Rugby Club as well as chess, athletics, motorsports, and golf.
