Toure: Mane a 'big example' outside football

Mane donated £41,000 to the Senegal national committee fighting against coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has said Sadio Mane is an example to be emulated outside football because of his charity work in Senegal.

Mane, who joined Bayern  Munich during the 2022-23 season, donated £41,000 to the Senegalese national committee fighting against coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Speaking to the Match of the Day Africa top 10, the former Ivory Coast international said: "The way he deals with things smoothly and the support he gives back to his people in his country is incredible, with what he's been involved with."

The former Southampton player also donated 300 Liverpool shirts prior to Liverpool's 2018 Champions League final loss to Real Madrid for locals in his hometown to wear during the game.

In 2019, Mané made a £250,000 donation to fund a school in Bambali. He also helped students in his village participate in education by donating laptops.

"Some days I get mad when I read media about him and a journalist will ask him, 'Why don't you have a Ferrari and things', and he says, 'No, I don't need it, I prefer to have a normal car than have a Ferrari'.

"He's been doing things back in his home country, he's a big example," Toure, 40, observed.

Mane scored 21 goals in 67 appearances for the Saints between 2014-2016.

He was signed by Jurgen Klopp in 2017 for £34m.

He was part of the Liverpool team the won the 2019 Champions League title. He also led the Reds to their first English Premier League title in 30 years after winning the league trophy in the 2019-2020 season.

Toure spent eight years at City from 2010-2018, winning the club's first Premier League title and the FA Cup.
