ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo on Saturday donated Sh500,000 to Kenyan Premier League behemoths Gor Mahia.

Owalo extended the gesture when he hosted a luncheon in honour of the club's legends and the current players at a function also attended by the club officials.

"The aim of the meeting was to give the current team encouragement ahead of tomorrow’s derby with AFC Leopards SC, whom I met earlier in the day, at a breakfast meeting —also to encourage them," Owalo said.

"As a token of support and goodwill, I have given Sh500,000 to the present team and another Sh500,000 to the legends."

The CS reiterated earlier calls for ex-players to be involved in running the affairs of football in the country.

"The legends gave the prime of their youth for the pride of our country. Their exemplary rich histories on the pitch should inspire the youth to excel and lift the sport to greater heights."

Former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia skipper Austin Oduor led the star-studded legendary squad at the function held at a Nairobi hotel.

Those present included Allan Thigo,  John Bobby Ogolla, Tobias Ochola, Nahashon Oluoch ‘Lule,’  Peter Ochieng Dawo, George Onyango Fundi, James Goro Oronge, George Otieno Solo, Isaiah Omondi, Michael Otieno, Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno, Swaleh 'Oswayo' Ochieng, Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo, Victor Onyango, and Josiah 'Biggy' Ougo.

Owalo was accompanied at the luncheon by the  CS for Sports, Ababu Namwamba.

"I look forward to a great derby tomorrow, and I wish to invite the fans of both Gor and AFC to turn up at Nyayo Stadium in great numbers to support their teams," he concluded.
