Harambee Stars captain and Al Duhail SC striker Michael Olunga is chasing both the Qatar Super League title and the golden boot award as the season comes to an end on May 8.

Olunga has been in fine form this season. He is the joint top scorer alongside Omar Al Soma of Al-Arabi with 18 goals even as one match is left.

The 29-year-old Olunga has won the Amir Cup, Qatar Cup and Ooredoo Cup since signing a three-year deal with the Club. The QSL title is the only domestic gong missing from Olunga's trophy cabinet.

Al Duhail currently leads the standings with 48 points, two better off than second-placed Al Arabi who boast of 46 points.

The table-toppers Al Duhail take on ninth-placed Al Shamal. Rivals Al Arabi faces a tricky match against red-hot Al Sadd— the team that has won all its last nine matches in all competitions.

Olunga has made 29 appearances this season in all competitions. He scored six goals in six appearances in 2020/2021 debut season.

In the 2021/2022 season, Olunga scored 24 goals in only 18 appearances to underline his importance to the team.

Overall, the hawk-eyed striker has scored 48 goals in 45 appearances for Al Duhail.

Olunga started his career at Gor Mahia in 2015 where the lethal forward made a name for himself after scoring 19 goals in 28 matches for the record Kenyan champions.

The following year, the maverick attacker moved to Sweden to ply trade with Djurgardens. He played for Guizhou in the Chinese Super League in 2017 before moving to Girona in the Spanish La Liga.

Olunga played for Kashiwa Reysol for three seasons between 2018-2020, scoring a total of 58 goals in the process.

The much-traveled athlete has never received a red card in his burgeoning football career.

Olunga made history by becoming the first Kenyan player to score seven goals in a single match. He did so for Reysol in their 13-1 thumping of Kyoto Sanga on November 24, 2019.

With Hernan Crespo at the helm, Al Duhail has lost only once this season. All the eyes now will be on Olunga on Monday. A win for Al Duhail will allow the team to play next season in the Asian Champions League.
