Kenya's Aymen Lucas Onyango became the fifth Kenyan junior athlete to join a football academy in England when he signed for Manchester City's under-9 team last month.

Brooklyn Kazungu, George Gitau, Silko Otieno and Leo Messo currently ply trade with Leicester City, Middlesbrough, Chelsea and Arsenal youth sides respectively.

It is a tricky move for Onyango to join one of the best teams in EPL but his dad Lucas Onyango termed the move a dream come true for his son as quoted by Capital Sports.

“I knew the Manchester City deal could happen one day. I put it there in public because I wanted to share the good news with my country Kenya… that there are talents out here,” Lucas says.

"In my life, I have never been this proud and this boy has worked hard to get here. The journey begins now that he has progresses through the academy. We are all over the moon," Onyango tweeted after getting the deal done.

Victor Wanyama, former Harambee  Stars captain is the only Kenyan player to ever don the English Premier League colours.

Wanyama, who plays for Montreal Impact in the Major League Soccer, USA, signed for Southampton in 2013 before inking a deal with Tottenham Hotspur in 2016.

Mc Donald Mariga, the elder brother to Wanyama, failed to move to England in 2010 after winning the Champions League trophy with Inter Milan.

Tanzania's Mbwana Samatta was only the second player from East Africa to rub shoulders in England when he signed for  Aston Villa.

In January 2020, Samatta moved to Villa, becoming the first Tanzania-born player to play and score in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen whether Onyango can scale through the ranks at City and make the grade in the English Premier League.
