Visiting Silibwet hold Shabana to barren draw at Gusii Stadium

Shabana coach Sammy Okoth rued missed chances as NSL log leaders Shabana were held to a barren draw against visiting Silibwet at Gusii Stadium on Sunday.

“It was a game we would have won but luck was not on our side today. We didn’t play well but in football, it happens. We also did not settle in the game,” said Okoth.

He added: “We dropped two important points but we focus now on our next match against SS Assad in Kwale. At this critical stage, we need to pick maximum points at home.”

Silibwet acting coach Eric Rono said: “It was a good game. We gave our best and picked an important point against log leaders Shabana at Gusii.” He said the five players signed in mid-season have gelled well with the rest and will help them avoid relegation.

Silibwet finished the game with 10 men after Laktano Kiprotich was sent off in the dying minutes of the game.

In an earlier match played at the same venue, Gusii FC ended their six-game winless streak after beating struggling Kajiado FC 1-0. Ken Olanda scored the all-important goal for the Kisii-based side

The game was scheduled for Saturday but was postponed due to heavy rains which pounded Kisii town.

Murang’a Seal beat Pius Aringa’s Darajani Gogo 1-0 at Camp Toyoyo to pile pressure on log leaders Shabana as Kibera Black Stars saw off SS Assad at Ligi Ndogo grounds. 

In matches played on Saturday, Mwatate United beat Naivas 1-0 courtesy of Robinson Joshua’s lone strike while Vihiga United overcame Coastal Heroes 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at Mbaraki Sports Club.
