Kiminini ward FC on Monday played their neighbouring Sikhendu ward fC in a thrilling football match at Ndura sports complex-Kitale.

The match was the final of the 2022 edition of Hon Maurice Bisau Kakai football tournament.

The cagey affair with young, talented, experienced and exciting superstars saw Kiminini ward FC being crowned the champions after hammering their neighbours with a 2-1 win thanks to Sakwa(Messi) the flamboyant striker who scored a brace for the champions.

After the final whistle, Hon Maurice Bisau Kakai thanked the organizers, coaches, players and fans for conducting a successful tournament.

He reiterated his commitment of promoting sporting activities.

He promised to work in synergy with all MCAs to ensure every ward has a standard playground and Promised to sponsor an annual tournament.

The MCAS thanked Hon Bisau for the initiative and Promised to work with him to ensure electorates get value of their leadership.

The teams were cheered on by hundreds of football fans and all the 6 MCAs representing all the six wards in Kiminini constituency together with their counterpart from Chepchoina ward.

All the teams were awarded with cash gift and trophies.

In the neighbouring Sikhendu ward, Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya said his administration will be upgrading several playing fields in the five sub counties to help promote sporting activities.

In a speech read to residents of Sikhendu by his personal assistant Emmanuel Wamalwa during the boxing day event, the governor said plans to upgrade the historical Kenyatta Stadium to in Kitale Town to international standards had began.

"It is all systems go even as the year 2022 comes to an end in a few days from now. All of our sub counties will be having stadia that will mark a new era in the sporting industry to benefit the youths of this county who have a great potential," said Wamalwa.

The County administration, he said had also established the Nawiri fund which will assist the business community and others including youths to get a start up that would forever change their economic livelihoods.

‘’The Sh140 million Nawiri fund that has been reestablished is indeed going to help not only youths but all those interested in business to grow economically. Those wishing to engage in cultural activities will also be funded," he said.

He said the county government will from next year take over funding of all cultural activities .
