The University of Eldoret (UOE) Ladies football team head coach Josphat Pilishi is optimistic that his side will dominate the Eastern Africa University Games set for this weekend in Ndejje, Uganda.

Pilishi who guided his side to a successful defence of the Rift Valley Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) football title last month said that they have been training well as they make a return to the university games for the first time since 2015.

The games are set December 17 to December 21 with Pilishi, who is making a debut at the games, keen to bring the trophy home.

“Training has been good. We have been working on some areas especially the attack. Only scoring goals will help us clinch the title away from home,” said Pilishi.

He said the UoE has played a critical role in ensuring they perform well by providing whatever is needed for the task ahead.

“The University's support is one of the reasons why we are performing well since taking over in April 2019. May God bless our sports tutor Kibet Rono for always being there when we need something from him,” he added.

The championships will be good for the Eldoret-based especially now that they are the Kenya University Sports Federation games hosts come January 2023, where they are also hopeful of excelling at their backyard.

Pilishi said they have been training and playing friendly matches in preparation for the championships.

“We started training immediately after winning the KUSF Rift Valley title. The ladies have been working hard to ensure that we win the title,” said Pilishi, who once coached Kenya Women Premier league side Eldoret Falcons.

The games have attracted 13 universities led by Makerere, Uganda Christian, Kyambogo, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kenyatta, Technical University of Kenya (TUK), Kampala, Makerere University Business School, Bishop Situart, Busitema, Moshi Co-operative and University of Nairobi.
