Tusker head coach Robert Matano says he is not quaking in the boots ahead of their crunch Kenyan Premier League clash against KCB at Moi Stadium, Kasarani this afternoon.

The reigning champions have been on a rampage in recent weeks, bagging seven wins in their last 10 fixtures.

They have gained considerable traction from their inspiring run and currently sit in an impressive second slot on the log with 40 points. KCB are four points adrift.

A win over the bankers will fire coach Matano's lads to within three points of leaders Kakamega Homeboyz, and set them on course for a successful title defence.

“I don't have pressure at all. I'm just working hard. We need to maintain consistency and we have to fight on,” said Matano.

“We have 12 matches left and at the end, we shall be in a better position,” said Matano.

The seasoned gaffer attributed their torrid start to the season to the naivety of new players recruited in the last transfer window.

He now reckons the brewers have finally gelled and ready to garnish their cabinet with a second consecutive title.

“We recruited new players in the last transfer window who lacked the experience of top-flight football,” Matano said.

“Some of them were from local lower tier clubs and, as such, needed time to adjust to the high tempo of the top tier game and settle down to my coaching philosophy.

“I'm glad the new players have finally managed to integrate with the rest of the squad and now understand what I want from them. They are even scoring goals,” Matano said.

Matano believes they are yet to attain their maximum level and, like wine, can only get better with time.

“There is no limit for improvement and as long as we continue to play together more and more, we will be able to achieve better results as a team.”

“Our recent success is as a result of teamwork,” said Matano.

On the other hand, KCB head coach Zedekiah Otieno will hope to replicate their outstanding performance against Wazito whom they beat 2-0 at Moi Stadium Kasarani on Saturday.

Lately, the bankers have struggled to cement their status in the top five after a promising start that saw them take command of the proceedings in the initial stages of the season.

They are training their sights on a maiden title after wrapping up second behind Tusker in the preceding season.
