KCB head coach Zedekiah Otieno, has heaped praise on his charges who surmounted a tough challenge to pip Nairobi City Stars 1-0 at Ruaraka Grounds on Friday.

The win has fired the bankers to the top of the Premier League table, three points clear of record champions Gor Mahia who have 18.

A stoppage-time goal by David Owino was all KCB needed to extend their unbeaten run to three matches since the league resumed a fortnight ago under the newly constituted Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee.

“It was a tough match and I'm happy we managed to collect maximum points this afternoon,” said Otieno.

“We kicked off the season slowly but, like I said, we will be improving as the season goes by. We only need to maintain this momentum and extend the good run into our subsequent matches and I believe we shall well be on course for the title.”

“We missed the title by a whisker last season after wrapping up second behind Tusker. We can only look to improve our status in the league this season and the only improvement we can attain is to secure the silverware,” said Otieno.

City Stars tactician, Nicholas Muyoti urged his team to create more chances and make good use of the ones that arise.

“Things could have been a lot different if we made use of the few goalscoring opportunities we created today. We played well but were not clinical enough in front of goal.

“We also conceded an easy goal. We need to be more vigilant in our own half to ensure we don't give opponents space and time to create chances,” said Muyoti.

The loss has left City Stars fifth on the log with 17 points.

At Mbaraki Sports, Kariobangi Sharks squandered an early lead to share spoils with hosts Bandari.

Stephen Otieno broke the deadlock three minutes to the breather before an own goal later in the game gave the hosts an opportunity to draw level.

Kariobangi Sharks went into the match on the back of a shock 3-1 thumping by Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium last weekend.

Sharks are now fourth on the log with 17 points while Bandari remain sixth with 16.
