Kanzu FC from Bungoma county are the new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) western regional Division Two league champions.

Kanzu attained the feat without kicking the ball after their opponents Nakhwana from Webuye failed to show up.

This forced the referee, Elias Murunga, to call off the match after 45 minutes of waiting and awarded Kanzu three points and two goals.

No reason was given for Nakhwana's failure to honour their fixture. Kanzu ended the 12-team league with 12 wins, two losses, and three draws.

11 Jaws from Luanda South in Vihiga county are on record to have  Kanzu's unbeaten record with a 2-1 victory at Maseni Vocational Institute. The same team also held the champions to a 1-1 draw before their partisan fans.

The other loss suffered was against Eshimambo, where Kanzu arrived late only to find the match already awarded to their hosts.

Kanzu and Marenga FC from Bunyala West Ward in Busia county had taken to the field with mathematical chances of winning the title. Marenga, who had 35 points, one behind the champions needed a clear win but failure by Nakhwana to honour the fixture jolted their bid despite a 2-0 win Wemilabi FC.

11 Jaws, who were chasing the third position, saw their match away to Matili abandoned in the 88th minute with the score standing at 1-1.

Kanzu chairman, Wilbright Juma Busolo, said hard work and discipline was their secret to success.
