Cecafa region representatives, Vihiga Queens, will jet out for the inaugural CAF Women's Champions League on November 2, Chief Executive Officer Mike Senelwa has confirmed.

Vihiga, who will have a 26-member playing unit in the travelling party, begin their campaign against Pool 'B' favourites Mamelodi Sundowns at the Military Academy Stadium on November 6.

While preparations are almost complete, Senelwa reckons Vihiga have what it takes to negotiate their way into the semi-finals in the two-week tournament.

"Everything is almost complete. We may leave on either November 1 or 2 with a total of 26 players. I hope the players will make the nation proud because, with the quality we have, there are high chances of making it to the last four and plan from there," the club supremo said.

This will be huge relief to coach Boniface Nyamunyamu who had earlier expressed a desire to land in the North African nation two days before the competition.  Nyamunyamu said they will close their preparations with a friendly match in Nairobi on Saturday.

Vihiga booked the sole slot reserved for Eastern Africa after beating Commercial Bank of Ethiopia 2-1 in the final at Moi Stadium Kasarani last month, even after the bankers had earlier beaten them 4-2  in a group match.

Meanwhile, a total of 25 match officials (12 referees and 13 assistants) have already been appointed ahead of the continental showpiece in Egypt. Kenya's Mary Njoroge is among the 13 assistant referees.

The match officials will be closely monitored before and during the competition by a team of technical specialists, under the supervision of CAF Refereeing Director, Eddy Maillet.

The Caf Women's Champions League was borne out of a desire to raise the standards of women's football in Africa.
