Kenya Prisons are looking to beef up their squad with young talent ahead of the new Kenya Volleyball Federation league season.

According to coach Josp Barasa, their priority is to sign a libero and setter.

The Wardresses, who won their third consecutive KVF  national league title in August, return to pre-season training today (Monday) after a month's break following their victory in Mombasa.

Prisons boasts one of the most accomplished squads in the league. The players featured in the  African Club Championship tournament in May and some of them were part of the national team to various international events including Olympic Games and Africa Nations Championships  among others.

He said the aim to sign talented players is to complement the ageing players and ensure continuity.

"This will also enhance competition in the team ahead of a defining season' which starts mid next month," said Barasa.

He added: "We only have two setters and signing another one is top of our agenda. We are also working on having a libero on board. All these is aimed at making the squad more competitive than in the previous seasons," Barasa said.

Joy Luseneka and Herma Kipyego are the only setters while Elizabeth Wanyama and Judith Tarus play as liberos.

"Our rivals are working around the clock to bolster the squad and the coming season could be more interesting because I know teams will be planning on how to stop our title-winning streak."

Barasa said his charges cannot rest on their laurels in as much as they are the team to beat. He urged the players to be prepared for a gruelling training period and shun complacency.

"We are not going to allow the standards to drop anytime soon. We have achieved much in the past but that is now in the past as we are opening a   new chapter that demands hard work in training."
