Fast-choice Wadadia goalkeeper Monica Odato is targeting a comeback from injury ahead of FKF  women's cup quarter finals  planned for next month.

The Mumias-based side host Kisumu Starlets at Mumias Complex on September 18 and the captain faces  race against time after returning to light training.

"It has taken so long to recover but I am happy to be finally back. Hopefully in two to three weeks time,  I should be back on my feet. My target is to guide the team in quest for glory in the cup competition," said Odato who has played second fiddle to Annet Kundu in the Starlets team.

The 25-year-old Odato landed awkwardly and dislocated her ankle during training session at the start of June. Scans revealed a cracked  bone and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The regular shot-stopper missed Wadadia's 6-0 battering in the hands of newbies Nakuru Queens and was unavailable for the playoffs as Thika Queens reclaimed the title they last won in 2016 from Vihiga Queens.

She hopes there will be no setback suffered because sometimes its hard to understand how the body responds especially after a long lay off.

"I know its a step by step process but I can't wait to get back in the goal. It is my prayer  I won't be derailed by anything from the long lay off."

Odato, who boasts of four Starlets call ups, was part of the Starlets team for the Turkish Cup women's tournament in February 2020. She was also  in the Kenya team that fell out in the penultimate stages of the Olympic qualifiers.
