After beginning his tenure as the new Kangemi All-Stars coach on a losing note, former Harambee Stars coach James Nandwa is keen to sign six players to beef his squad with the aim of escaping relegation.

Nandwa was handed a rude welcome to the second tier after spending the last one and half years with Super 8 champions Jericho All-Stars as Kangemi fell 4-2 to promotion-chasing Wazito yesterday at Camp Toyoyo to put their hopes of escaping relegation in jeopardy.

Nandwa, who replaced Shabana Masika four days ago after the club reportedly signed a new deal with a leading security firm, opened up after the match on his plan to bring two defenders, two midfielders, a forward and a goalkeeper to strengthen his current squad.

The former Thika United coach expressed pleasure in returning to the limelight and singled out beating the drop as his top priority in his wish list.

He said: “I am happy to return to the touch-line and the Super League after a long period. From the assessment of my first match in charge, I have identified areas to strengthen and think six players will beef up the team. I need two defenders, two midfielders, a striker and a goalkeeper to successfully escape the wrath of the axe.”

Tusker loanee Amos Asembeka threw Wazito ahead in the 13th minute before Washington Munene doubled the lead in the 33rd minute. Christopher Ambuka halved the deficit for Kangemi in the 36th minute and would restore parity in the 48th minute through Teddy Siwa.

Dennis Gicheru headed Wazito’s third goal in the 69th minute before Victor Ndinya put the result beyond the reach of Kangemi in the 82nd minute.

Despite the win, Wazito coach Fred Ambani vowed to ring changes in his goal-keeping department which had leaked four times in the two matches he has overseen since taking over from Mohammed Mchulla.

Earlier on at the same venue, Bidco United coach Anthony Akhulia was left fuming with the officials who manned their match against FC Talanta after the latter were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the game to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Bidco had taken the lead in the first half through Francis Oduor but Gedion Were equalised in the added minutes to deny Bidco maximum points.
