After winning the league, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) head coach Anthony Ojukwu says his next task is the recruitment of new players for the new season.
The tactician said celebrations are now over after KPA bagged the men's and women's national titles over the weekend.
"It was a good season, but celebrations are over, and now it's time to go back to work," noted Ojukwu. "We must plan recruitment of players for the next season because there is so much ahead," he noted.
KPA sides claimed the titles with a 3-0 and 3-1 best-of-five series wins over Zetech University Sparks and Equity Bank Dumas respectively.
Ojukwu said they plan to have a post-mortem of the whole season as the technical bench before coming to the execution of the plan for the new season.
"It's all about planning. Without proper planning, we will fail. Then we must have good recruitment," he offered.
The long-serving tactician said there is a need to fix some positions in the team and that is why the technical meeting will be important.
By claiming the league titles, KPA booked themselves tickets to the continental championships in the coming season.
KPA women's team will return to the Africa Club Championships and captain Natalie Akinyi said in an interview that they now have what it takes to excel.
Last December, the ports women went to Maputo, Mozambique for the club tournament and wound up in the fifth position. The men's side, on the other hand, have booked their tickets to their third successive Basketball Africa League (BAL) outing. They have yet to make it to the final tour.
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) competition secretary Joseph Amoko said they are still working on the modalities for the 2023 season tip-off.
"We will let the teams know how soon we will start off the new season. I just can't release the dates as yet," said Amoko.
Early tip-off will give the teams representing the country ample time to prepare adequately for these two events.
