Rivals Onjiko and Agoro Sare clash in Nyanza region opener

It’s a repeat of last year’s final which saw Onjiko defeat Agoro Sare 82-51 to lift their maiden regional title.

•Defending rugby 15’s champions Maseno School have a tricky opening day fixture against Homa Bay Boys while hosts Kisii School and St Paul’s Gekano from Nyamira will clash in the second gamei.

Onjiko will on Wednesday open their Nyanza region secondary schools boys’ basketball title defence against Agoro Sare at Kisii School in what is expected to be an explosive game.

It’s a repeat of last year’s final which saw Onjiko defeat Agoro Sare 82-51 to lift their maiden regional title. The game is also tipped to be the final before the final.

In the second game of the day, hosts Kisii School will face Usenge Boys from Siaya.

Were said he is eyeing the national title on his second attempt. “Our focus is the national title this year. Last year, my boys made their debut and I believe they now have what it takes to wrestle for the title,” he said. 

In the girls’ category, former champions Barchando will start their campaign to reclaim the title when they battle Kisii County champions St Angela’s Sengera while Homa Bay champions Asumbi Girls battle it out with Tuk Jowi.

In boys’ hockey, three-time Kisii County champions Nduru Boys face familiar foes Ringa in the opening match while in the girls' category, Kereri face Anding’o at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, where girls’ hockey will be staged.

Manyatta Boys begin their title defence against Orero Boys as Nduru Boys battle it out with Rangala from Siaya county. In the girls' category, holders Kakrao will play against Nyamira from Siaya. In the second game, Kisii’s Ndonyo face off against Guu from Kisumu.
