Strathmore Blades' George Darril insists Team Kenya have to work on their skills and game management ahead of the FIBA 3X3 Africa Cup slated for December 3-4 in Cairo, Egypt.

The guard said these two aspects was their major undoing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

“We want to win the Cairo championships. 3X3 is more tactical and as a team, we have to work on our skill set and know when to attempt shots and when not to,” Darril said.

He revealed they are currently training every evening at the Nyayo Stadium where they are also working on their endurance.

Darril added their preparations are also geared towards next year’s All Africa Games in Ghana.

“We believe in ourselves and we know we can make it. We just need to watch our fitness,” he said.

After the Commonwealth Games, Darril featured in the Red Bull Half Court World Final in Egypt, which he said was a crucial experience in his quest to improve on tactics.

“Being active in such activities helps me to be fit,” he said.

The Fourth Year student at Strathmore University won gold at the 2014 African Youth Games, the highlight of his career thus far.

“That was my first time in an international tournament… I was below 18 years,” he recalled.

Meanwhile, Darril revealed his journey in basketball has not been a bed of roses, recalling: “Balancing between school and basketball is not easy."

"I have had to miss some classes during tournaments. Preparing for such tournaments also demands a lot of time and funds.”
