Equity Bank's coach Carey Oketch is banking on teamwork to make an impact in the Kenya National Basketball League (KNBL) this year.

The tactician said Equity, who reached the play-off semis last year, is getting to the level where it can now rub shoulders with big boys.

"We just need to prepare mentally, stay together and make each other accountable," said Oketch.

He added: "This is a very dangerous year for us and we have to be sharp and focused on the little details."

"The team's training is going on well with new signings from Ulinzi Warriors. We have brought in Victor Bosire and James Mwangi on board and I believe they will bring in leadership in the playing unit," Oketch said.

The duo is expected to play a huge role when the soldiers come calling in the top tie as the league resumes at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium this weekend.

"Mwangi and Bosire have brought maturity, focus and accountability to the whole organization. It's a big plus," he exuded.

Equity Bank, who lost one game to Thunder, are lying sixth on the table with nine points from four wins.

They have two tight matches this weekend. Besides playing Ulinzi, who are second, the bankers will also take on third-placed Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks in their second tie.

But the varsity sides coach Mike Oluoch said his players have not shown up for training as the institution will open up for lessons next week.

A total of six top-tier matches are on the card this weekend, four on Saturday and two on Sunday.

The other fixtures will see Zetech University Sparks play Eagle Wings while Strathmore University Swords tackle Storms.

Colins Gaya's Thunder, who inflicted Equity Banks' only loss, have a date with debutants Zetech University Titans.
