Zetech Sparks open league campaign against Strathmore

Zetech University Sparks are expected to field new signing Ashley Minayo in their opening Kenya national Basketball League (KNBL) match against Strathmore University this weekend.

Minayo, who joined from Storms, is expected to boost the students back court play.

Sparks coach Maurice Obilo, who got the better of Strathmore in both legs last year as they went on to finish third, remains upbeat their new addition will prove her worth for the team.

“The girls have been preparing well. We are at strength and we expect to come out strongly in our first league match,” said Obilo.

Women champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will host two city teams — Eagle Wings and Storms — in the Premier League.

Africa Nazarene University (ANU) host Eldonets, before winding up the weekend with a clash against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Former national champions Ulinzi Warriors play Platinum Eldonets in their second fixture, having opened their campaign with an easy 71-51 thumping of debutant Zetech University Titans.

Eldonets, who rely on sharp-shooter James Omweno, will then close the two-game tour of the city with a match against Strathmore University Blades.

Strathmore are looking sharp, having gotten off the blocks strongly with wins against Thunder (76-69) and Umoja (73-65).

At the Menengai High School courts in Nakuru, The Swish will be at home to Bungoma’s Swift.

Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University have a date with Western Delight from Kakamega as United States International University (USIU) meet Strathmore.
