Bulk of Budapest athletes named in World Road Running team

A bulk of Team Kenya athletes taking part in the ongoing Budapest show will compete in the World Road Running Championships in Latvia.

In Summary

• Kipyegon will lead the women’s elite squad in the road mile and will have the company of Nelly Chepchichir and world 3,000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech.

•Kipyegon, who holds world records in 1500m, 5,000m and the mile and Chepchirchir are flying Kenya’s flag in 1,50Om here in Budapest while Chepkoech is here to run the women's 3,000m steeplechase.

Multiple world record holder Faith Kipyegon will lead top athletes to the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on September 30 to October 1. 

A bulk of Team Kenya athletes taking part in the ongoing Budapest show will compete in the World Road Running Championships in Latvia.

 Kipyegon will lead the women’s elite squad in the road mile and will have the company of Nelly Chepchichir and world 3,000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech. 

Kipyegon, who holds world records in 1500m, 5,000m and the mile is flying the Kenyan flag in the 1500m in Budapest alongside Chepchirchir while Chepkoech is competing in the women's 3,000m steeplechase.

The men’s Road Mile will feature former world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot, Africa 5,000m champion Abel Kipsang and World  Under-20 champion Reynold Cheruiyot.

The 5km race will feature Jacob Krop, Nicholas Kimeli and Cornelius Kemboi, all of whom are featuring in the 5,000m race here in Budapest while Carolyn Nyaga, Beatrice Chebet  and Lilian Kasait will be the women's representatives in the women’s 5km.

Olympic champion Peris Jepchirchir will lead the half marathon women's squad alongside Irene Khamais, who placed fourth in the women’s 10,000m race at the World Athletics Championships.

Others are Margaret Chelimo who will fly Kenya’s flag in the women’s 5,000m, Catherine Reline and Janeth Chepng’etich.
