Kenya Beach sides start training ahead of Africa show in Tunisia

The Kenyan contingent, consisting of 74 athletes, will participate in the games scheduled for June 23-30 in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Team Kenya to Africa Beach Games have commenced training in Malindi and Nairobi.

The Kenyan contingent, consisting of 74 athletes, will participate in the games scheduled for June 23-30 in Hammamet, Tunisia.

The 3x3 basketball team will hold their training sessions at Nyayo Stadium and Umoja 2 courts while the wrestling squad will hone their skills at Strathmore University.

Meanwhile, the remaining teams will sharpen their skills at the picturesque Buntwani Waterfront Park in Malindi. In Tunisia, 12 men and a similar number of women will represent Kenya in the 5-a-side format beach soccer and beach handball. Beach tennis will witness thrilling doubles competitions for both men and women.

Three men and three women will participate in the ocean racing sprint rowing discipline while open water swimming will feature two representatives each.

Additionally, beach wrestling will field three men and three women athletes. Notably, two athletes who are currently camping in Iten will represent Kenya in the beach marathon.

Team Kenya will be aiming to surpass their achievements from the 2019 edition in Cape Verde. Charles Muneria secured a silver medal in the athletics half marathon event.

Fazal Khan and Ibrahim Yego claimed bronze in beach tennis men’s doubles while Naomie Too and Olympian Gaudencia Makhokha brought home a bronze in women’s beach volleyball.

The Africa Beach Games serve as qualifiers for the World Beach Games. Furthermore, the 3x3 basketball contributes valuable points towards the qualification process for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
