The Roan Antelope Half Marathon will be held on Saturday at Ruma National Park in Homa Bay County.

Athletics Kenya(AK) Nyanza North chairman Joseph Ochieng said the race, dubbed ‘Run With The Roan’ will be held within the park.

“It will be an exciting race that will be staged on a course within the park. It’s a good initiative by the county government of Homa Bay,” said Ochieng.

He added: “The course has no room for shortcuts. The athletes will definitely enjoy running in the wild with wild animals.”

Registration is Sh1, 000 for elite athletes and Sh500 for students. Corporates will pay a registration fee of Sh50,000. The race is sponsored by the County Government of Homa Bay, Diamond Trust Bank, and the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Winners in both the men's and women’s categories will get Sh250, 000, first runners-up Sh150, 000, and third-placed athletes Sh100, 000. The fourth and fifth athletes will receive h75, 000 and Sh50, 000 respectively.

Ochieng noted that the top 10 athletes will get cash awards. “The prize structure is as per AK road running regulations. The Roan is a rare species of antelope that is endangered," he revealed.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga encouraged athletes to register for the event. “Get your shoes ready. Make sure to register early and secure your spot for this epic adventure. Trust us, it's going to be nothing short of amazing,” she said.

At the same time, Winfridah Moseti who bagged the second edition of the Nyamira Great Run is now targeting the Frankfurt marathon in October.

“I ran my persona best at 2:23:30 during the Paris Marathon in early April. My next target is the Frankfurt. For now, I concentrate on local races as I prepare for the marathon,” she said on Tuesday.
