Organisers of the Eldoret City Marathon have changed the route and the date for the fifth edition of the annual race

Race director Moses Tanui said the new route will cover the whole of Eldoret town as they count on the now operational southern bypass to accommodate traffic.

The former world half marathon champion said: “The new course will start at Highlands Inn towards Moi Girls, join Uganda Road, Huruma, Kipkaren Estate, Langas, Kisumu Road back to town to end at the usual finishing point at Zion Mall.”

Tanui added that the race will now be held on June 25 as opposed to it's usual dates in April.

“This fifth edition of race will be held June 25 and not April 16. We didn’t pay the athletes on time and we now want to give ourselves a grace period to consolidate funds even as we look for more sponsors,” said the two time Boston marathon winner.

He also urged athletes who wish to participate in the marathon to register from next week.

Tanui added: “As a retired athlete, I'd like to see the marathon running for many years. Athletes should continue training as we look forward to June.”

In the 2022 edition held on April 10,

Victor Kipchirchir defended his title at the 2022 edition in 2:13:10 ahead of Michael Mutai (2:13:23) and Josephat Bett ( 2:13:58). Emily Chebet won the women's race in 2:29:57 ahead of Shyline Jepkorir (2:30:13) and Lilian Jelagat (2:30:23).
