World silver 5,000m medalist Beatrice Chebet and defending 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal put on a superb display to clinch the gold medals in their respective races at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday night.

Chebet fended off Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Eilish McColgan of Scotland with 250m to go to clock a season best 14:38.21. McColgan took the silver in 14:42.14, a season best of for the Scot, as Selah Busienei took bronze in 14:48.24, a personal best.

Kinyamal defended his crown in the 800m after from the start, powering home in 1:47.52. Peter Bol from Australia took silver in 1:47.66 with Bob Pattison of England taking bronze in 1:48.25.
