Kenyans impress in 800m, 5,000m semis in Oregon

Team Kenya trio of Emmanuel Korir, Emmanuel Wanyoyi and Wycliff Kinyamal are safely through to the 800m final at the ongoing World Athletics championship in Oregon.

Korir, the Olympic champion topped his heat in 1:45.38 as Commonwealth Games champion Kinyamal came second 1:45.49 with Peter Bol of Australia third in 1:45.55.

World under 20 champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi qualified as one of the fastest losers after being placed third in his heat. He clocked 1:45.42.

Algeria's Slimane Mouala came first in 1:44.89 ahead of Marco Arop of Canada in 1:45.12. Another Kenyan, Noah Kibet missed out on the final after placing eighth in Heat 2.

Nicholas Korir also grabbed also sailed through as one ofbthe fastest losers after finishing sixth in his heat in a time of 13:24.56.

Oscar Chelimo of Uganda took won the heat in 13:24.23 followed by Grant Fisher of USA in 13:24.44, Olympic 5000m champion Selemon Barega in 13:24.44 and world 10,000m champion Joshua Cheptegei in 13:24.77.
