Reigning Commonwealth 10,000m bronze medallist Rodgers Kwemoi Chumo says the chance to compete at the Valencia Half Marathon is a dream come true.

The October 24 race has attracted top notch runners that include world 10km record holder Rhonex Kipruto, Kevin Kiptum and Ethiopia’s Muktar Edris among others in the congested line-up.

“It has always been my dream to compete at the half marathons. I was to debut last year in Copenhagen but the race was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic,” Kwemoi said.

Fresh from finishing seventh in the men's 10,000m at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, Kwemoi said he does not expect to struggle a lot in road races due to his thorough training regime.

“This is my first half marathon and I want to run the same way I have been doing on track. Even on track, I have been training in long runs like 30km so the transition is not hard for me. I am used to that. I want to post a good time in Valencia and probably podium finish,” Kwemoi said in Eldoret.

The former world junior 10,000m champion added: “I am getting a very nice training programme from my coach, Patrick Sang, and this  will guide me to success.”

Kwemoi has been training alongside former world half marathon record holder Geoffrey Kamworor and world marathon and Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge.
