St. Anthony’s Boys’ Kitale tactician Kelvin Lugalia has accredited tactical ingenuity to their 1-0 win over the defending champions Musingu Boys’ during the national Term One games in Machakos.

The match was initially slated for Tuesday but was moved in a change of plans.

Kelvin Onyango was St. Anthony’s hero after slamming home the winning goal in the third quarter.

Lugalia revealed the attacking mindset that propelled their hunt.

“Our strategy was to attack relentlessly and unsettle a formidable Musingu side,” Lugalia said. “This win wasn’t about revenge. It’s a testament to our resilience and strategic recalibration.”

Recalling Musingu’s previous triumph, where Alex Kigaro’s goal shattered their seven-year reign,

Lugalia hailed his rock-solid defence, highlighting their impeccable performance that left no room for errors.

“We didn’t come for revenge today after Musingu beat us in the final last year. Our victory is a testament that we went back to the drawing board to correct our mistakes,” he added.

“The boys were focused. Our defence was solid. We didn’t let in casual mistakes. We were solid on both fronts.”

However, he said it is not yet time to celebrate.

“I wouldn’t say confidently that we are going for the crown. The tournament has five matches if you are lucky enough to reach the final. We are taking one game at a time,” he said.

Musingu coach Benson Wabuyabo lamented his team’s complacency in the final stretch.

“We grew complacent, made costly errors and paid the price,” he said.

He said they were done a head-scratcher and expects to win their remaining matches.

“Today’s game was tough. This was the only game that was worrying me. We are assured of winning the remaining matches,” he added.

“We’ll regroup and strategise for a strong comeback. I am confident we will win this title again. We have lost two opening matches in previous editions and went on to lift the crown.”
