Kenya Pipeline head coach Paul Gitau has reiterated that his charges have achieved their targets despite losing 3-1 in the finals of the Africa Club Volleyball Championships to Zamaleck on May 22.

The oil merchants who are the Kenya Volleyball Federation league defending champions, reached their first final in almost 10 years.

"We may not have lifted the title but we have accomplished our mission," Gitau said.

"During the training, I had a covenant with my players that we will make sure we play in this year's finals. God is great we have done it," the coach added.

Gitau hinted that they intend to extend their dominance both locally and internationally and that the character shown by Pipeline in Tunisia was a sign of better things to come.

"Next year we have to pick up from where we have left. The players displayed character and maturity throughout. If we maintain the same zeal and enthusiasm, Pipeline has what it takes to be crowned champions come next year," he said.

Gitau, whose contract runs out in September, is proud to have instilled a winning mentality into the team highlighted by the KVF title glory in January this year.

In order to become a well-oiled team, the gaffer reckons that he needs to strike a good balance in his squad.

"My plan is to have 14 great players. The blend of youth and experience will make us tick all boxes and achieve our targets that are in line with the company's expectations," Gitau maintained.
