Chief safety officer for World Rally Championship (WRC) Kenya Norris Ongalo, has promised Kenyans that this year’s event will be better and entertaining as compared to the previous years.

Speaking on an interview with a national television, Ongalo said that preparations are at an advance stage and they are working on the final touches.

“This year it has to be better. The first year had its challenges due to Covid-19 but as we keep learning we keep making it better,” said Ongalo.

“We are almost done with preparation. We are at 90-95 percent. The remaining part is the maintenance of the roads for them to be ready. Safety equipment is ready and also there are new ones coming,” Ongalo hinted.

In a bid to attract more spectators the organizing committee has incorporated hustler bazas for business persons at strategic points.

“We hope to get more fans as a result of the business aspect to add on to the rally interest,” said Ongalo.

According to Ongalo the route remains unchanged with only minor changes at some points.

“We have replaced Nalasha stage with Malewa stage and the Kedong stage we have adjusted about 2km,” he explained.

“We understand our spectators are very helpful but due to technical and medical reasons, they should stay away from the vehicle until the officials arrive unless the car is on fire,” Ongalo exclaimed.
