Kenya Ports Authority men's volleyball team are eyeing a podium finish at the 2023 Africa Club Championships to be held in Tunis, Tunisia between May 9 and 22.

As the 14-strong squad jetted out Tuesday, head coach Samuel Mulinge said his boys are ready for the continental showpiece.

He said they plan to build on their fifth-place finishes from 2021 and 2022 by hitting the podium. He said all his players are fully-fit and ready to ride on the experiences gained from the previous two editions.

“We are looking at how to improve our performance from the last two editions where we finished fifth. We have to get to the podium, that is our target,” said Mulinge.

While commending sponsors KPA for their continued support, Mulinge said they are ready to repay the faith.

He said KPA, who have been in residential training camp at Makande Hall in Mombasa, have had their allowances already paid and therefore have no excuses not to perform.

“The expectations are high since we are not only flying KPA's flag, but the country's too. Yes, we expect tough competition but my boys have experience from the two previous editions. They know what to expect and are well prepared for it,” Mulinge said.

In a speech read on his behalf by the KPA manager Administration Bildad Kisero, managing director William Ruto said: “We trust that you will showcase the KPA brand well and convey the message that the authority is an organisation with talented and competitive sportspersons."
