Okumu stars as Sailors dismantle UON in KHU league match

Gilly Okumu scored a brace to help Amira Sailors cruise past a hapless  University of Nairobi (UON) 3-0 in the women's hockey Premier League match at the City Park Stadium on May 7.

The international player found the back of the net in the 36th and 46th minute respectively to hand Sailors their second win of the season. Yvette Kanyandong had given Sailors the lead in the 30th minute.

Sailors are yet to lose this season having registered two draws in a row prior to today's win.

Elsewhere, record champions Blazers annihilated Kenyatta University Titans 6-1 in a commanding performance to underline their title ambitions after just three matches.

Flavia Mutiva opened the scoring in the 11th minute for the seven-time African Club Champions Blazers. Four minutes later, Titans' Monica Kitui pulled the students back to level terms against the ran of play.

Alice Wanjiru restored Blazers advantage in the 21st minute before a brace from Maureem Okumu and a 44th minute goal from Terry Masibo sealed the victory.

Blazers is the most ruthless team in the women's cadre, having scored 12 goals in three matches.

In the men's Super League, Wazalendo Masters hammered Parklands 4-2. William Mutua, Mathew Mutiso and a double from Wycliffe Mbeda confirmed victory for Wazalendo. Franklin Knoldi and Hesbon Galinya  scored for Parklands.

In another match, Kisumu Youngstars edged out Nakuru  2-1.
