Kenya Prisons men's volleyball coach David Lung'aho has said the warders can win the Paul Bitok national tournament if reception and defence work well for the team.

The two-day tournament will be played both at the Nyayo stadium for men while Kasarani Indoor Arena will host the women's matches on  April 8-9.

Lung'aho reckons that his charges are fired up for the energy-sapping fixtures and are banking on their better league form to win the trophy.

"We hope that reception and defence really work well for us having burnt the midnight oil to seal the loopholes in the aforementioned departments. We expect stiff competition from other teams but the aim is to win the title. It's been a while since we won a trophy and laying our hands on the gong could be a stepping stone to bigger achievements."

The former long-serving national women's team Malkia Strikers coach added that the tournament is part of their preparation for the current season.

"The players are in better shape physically and mentally. The team played well in the last leg of the league and we intend to carry on that form."

12 teams will do duty in the men's category while the ladies' cadre will have eight teams.

"The General Service Unit, Kenya Defence Forces, Trail Blazers as well as Kenya Ports Authority, are our biggest threat. Don't forget that Rwandair has something to prove."
